Operation of the museum was consigned to the Transportation Cultural Promotion Foundation. |

Events held to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the railway. (the Umekoji Steam Locomotive Preservation Hall was opened in Kyoto.) |

A three phase program was initiated to counteract the sinking of the foundation under the exhibition rooms of the main building, the program completed by 1979. |
