Collections
Since operation of the Modern Transportation Museum was transferred from the Japanese National Railways to the West Japan Railway Company in 1987, the museum has been accumulating the company's historical materials. Until 1987, the Museum of Transporta tion in Tokyo, our sister facility, had been serving as the historical museum and collecting historical data, but now the Modern Transportation Museum is also focusing on historical records and has begun its own independent collection.
Materials in the collection include railway cars, machine, tools, railway implements as well as books and documents, audio-visual materials like films, and printed materials like posters, labels and tickets. Materials in the collection come from a variety of sources, some are purchased, some are brought in from other branches of the company, and some are donations from individuals and corporations.
