This trunk line diesel locomotive has two large 1100 hp engines, can be used to pull trains like the DE10, and can handle all types of continuous, heavy operation. The DD51 is even used to pull the Izumo sleeper train. The intermediate bogies have variable axle weights that can be set to 14t or 15t by changing the air spring pressure. The SG4 used to be equipped with heating equipment, but all heating equipment has been removed from these locomotives.
