[Model/Name] Model 221-Series
This train was designed to create a unique image for JR-West that would help make the company even more competitive in the private railway industry. This new generation suburban train features three doors per car and cloth covered seats. The 220-Series uses a 1M configuration, but the 221-Series uses a 2 car per unit configuration, making it possible to modify train layout as needed. Standard equipment includes automatic defrosters, holding brakes and heating equipment so that the train can be used widely throughout the JR Urban Network.
