Model 223-Series [Model/Name] Model 223-Series

Carrying on the image created by the 221-Series, the 223-Series has become the standard for suburban electric trains. There are two models, the 0-Model, used as the Kansai airport rapid service, and the 1000-Model, which runs on main lines at 130 km/h. The trains have three doors and cloth seats that can face either direction, and the 0-Model train has extra wide aisles with a 1 + 2 seat layout to allow for the large baggage carried by airport-bound passengers. The basic configuration is 1N2T with 1-inverter/1-motor VVVF control. The 1000-Model also includes an M car containing the systems required for its high-speed operation.
