The 9600-Series was a preventative freight locomotive of its time ,with 770 being producer from 1913 to 1926. This was the first locomotive to be mass-produced in Japan,
and is easily identified by its thick boiler. The locomotive was also used
to pull passenger trains on lines with steep slopes.
The locomotive at the Umekoji Steam Locomotive Museum ran a total of 2.67
million kilometers in Kofu and Toyama.
