C53
The C53 was successor to the C51, with 97 being produced from 1928
to 1930. This was the only large-scale passenger locomotive in Japan with
three cylinders. The C51 was used for a wide range of jobs, from pulling
limited express trains on the Tokaido Line and Sanyo Main Line to pulling
local trains.
After being retired in 1950, this C5345 was restored in 1961 and put on display
at the Modern Transportation Museum. Then, it was moved to the Umekoji
Steam Locomotive Museum opened.
