[Model/Name] Model
C57
An improved version of the C55, 201 locomotives were manufactured from
1937 to 1942. This mid-sized locomotive was used to pull passenger trains.
Various improvements had been made in each model from C51 to C55, with the
C57 nearing perfection. The C57 was called "The Lady" because of
its beautiful style. This was the most commonly used steam locomotive of
any of the steam locomotives operated by JR.
The locomotive at the Umekoji Steam Locomotive Museum was used in the Mito
and Utsunomiya areas. Today, the C57 pulls the "SL Yamaguchi Train" between Ogori
and Tsuwano.
