D51
The D51 was a large-scale freight locomotive, and 1,115 of these locomotives
were manufactured between 1936 and 1945. The D51 was an improved version of
the D50, and has become representative of Japan's steam locomotives. A large
number of these locomotives were manufactured, and the D51 eventually became
known by its nickname, "Degoichi". This popular locomotive also
had another nickname, "Namekuji", meaning slug because
of the dome that ran from its smoke stack to the middle of the boiler.
D551 ran a total of 2.37 million kilometers in the Shimane areas.
D51200
ran a total of 2.55
million kilometers in the Maibara and Gifu areas.
