D52
The D52 was a gigantic freight locomotive. A total of 285 were manufactured
from 1943 to 1945. During the war, it was difficult to transport coal and
other goods by sea, and the 1000t capacity of the D51 was not enough to meet
the transportation needs of the times, so the D52 was designed with a capacity
of 1,200t.
The locomotive at the Umekoji Steam Locomotive Museum ran a total of 2.45
million kilometers in the Himeji and Hokkaido areas.
